Commercial Driver Seminar
![]()
It’s no secret that dealing with government regulations is one of the most difficult and frustrating areas for most dealers. One particularly difficult area is commercial driver regulations. Every time a driver leaves your premises, there is a risk he or she will be stopped randomly to see if they are up to date on their paperwork.
In December 2010, CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) was rolled out by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This initiative is intended to improve truck safety and as a result, introduces a new level of enforcement and compliance that requires businesses and drivers/employees such as yours to be in compliance. The most current revisions to the regulations were updated in August 2011, and therefore have been the focus of an increase in recent enforcement activity. Audits have increased 53 percent in the last 12 months, which means your chances of being audited increase each day.
One area that cannot be ignored is the need to train your drivers and anyone else involved in loading, unloading or supervising any aspect of your trucking operations. That’s why your SouthWestern Association will be offering training sessions covering what you and your drivers need to know.
Enforcement and inspections are not the only concern surrounding these regulations – if there’s an accident and you are involved in civil litigation, your chances of minimizing damage are greatly improved by your ability to show you cared enough to train all your people.
